RACE CITY USA/CHARLOTTE, NC: Speedway Group announced today the formation of the “International Powerboat Grand Prix Association” (IPGP), a championship series that will feature two premier outboard racing classes, F1 ChampBoat and the new X-Boat Series, known Internationally as “X-Cat”.
Charlotte based Speedway Group (SGI) has been a premier motorsport marketing and event production agency since 1998. SGI has earned many industry awards and accolades, and has produced some of the most significant new product launches in automotive history. Speedway Group is not new to powerboat racing; SGI has been the promoter of the F1 ChampBoat Series (F1/F2) since 2005 where it has produced twenty-nine (29) of the last thirty-one (31) F1 Powerboat races for North America.
“We are very excited to launch X-Boat in America as it has become one of the most popular classes of powerboat racing in the world. We are confident the 1-2 punch of both F1 and X-Boat together will not only create fantastic powerboat festivals it will prove to accelerate powerboat racing as a mainstream American sport,” stated Speedway Group President, Mike Schriefer.
The inaugural X-Boat Series will feature 5-6 events and television coverage on a to be announced cable sports network. Representatives also stated that several announcements would be forthcoming leading up to the first event this spring.
